Accounting Machines - Class 20 - 30
Class 20
In the late 1920's, Burroughs released the Class 20-30 series of High Speed Accounting Machines. Prices of these machines varied by the number of columns (13 or 17) and the features included. The standard build machines started at around $1,500.00. More features would drive the price well above $3,000.00.
The following description of the Class 20 machines was taken from the Burroughs U. S. Government Service Price List. Number 33 for 1944 - 1945.
"For volume posting and accounting where written descriptions are not required. The 170column keyboard permits recording date, descriptive character, reference number and amount simultaneously in one machine operation, minimizing carriage tabulation. Word keys can be furnished which permit writing a complete word or abbreviation from a single key depression."

Class 30
The following description of the Class 30 machines was taken from the Burroughs U. S. Government Service Price List. Number 33 for 1944 - 1945.
" Burroughs Labor Accounting Machine
For labor accounting in construction and operation of powder, shell loading, tank, machine gun and other war materiel plants, and shipyards. Writes employee's check, statement of earnings, earnings record, and the payroll summary at one operation. This machine can also be used for handling War Bond purchase ledgers."
